Ready for a Career shake-up?

If you know that now is the time to change your career to a new industry/field, here are three simple resume tips you can't ignore:

  1. Highlight Your Transferable Skills in a Fun Way

Don't just list your skills. Give interesting examples of how you've used them. For example, if you're a banker interested in a project manager role, highlight your skills in project management.

Instead of saying “conducted in-depth financial analyses”, say “turned complex financial data into easy-to-understand project plans, making sure each part of the project stayed on budget.

2. Use Industry Language Creatively

Don't use too much jargon, but add some important terms from your new field to show your expertise.

For example, if you're moving from sales to software development, instead of saying “closed deals worth 5 cr annually,” you could say “pioneered user-focused sales strategies to close deals worth 5 cr annually in a fast-paced, agile environment.

3. Include a “Passion Project” Section

Add a section about personal projects or hobbies that show your interest and skills in the new field. For example, if you're moving from finance to marketing, mention your YouTube channel on travel or lifestyle and how you grew it to 5,000 subscribers in one year.

This shows you can learn new skills, create interesting content, and manage a growing audience.

Have you successfully changed industries in your career?
